  • IKEA produces affordable products which allow users to use less energy at home and reduce waste
  • Energy consuming products now 32% more efficient than they were in 2008
  • Dishwaters in general are 51% more efficient than they were in 2008
  • Sells only energy efficient lighting which uses 85% less electricity compared to incandescent

Reduce resource dependency for energy

 

  • IKEA has been protecting resources, converting waste into resources and using renewable energy
  • Currently 91% of materials used in IKEA products are recyclable. Aims to get this up to 100% by 2015.
  • Wood sourced from suppliers meet IWAY Forestry Standard and aims to source all wood from forests certified by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
  • Collaboration with WWF and Better Cotton Initiative to make cotton farming sustainable.
  • €1.5 billion investment in renewable energy with focus on wind and solar.
  • Currently have 250,000 solar panel and 83 wind turbines in operation.

Community development

 

  • Improving life of IKEA’s co-workers, suppliers and communities from around the world
  • Increased proportion of women in management to 47%
  • IKEA Foundation donated €82 million to children in developing countries
  • Soft Toy for education campaign raised €11.4 million, for every soft toy sold IKEA donates €1
  • Partners include UNIICEF and Save the Children with 100 million children benefiting
  • Provides 80 million children vitamin supplements and vaccines through IKEA foundation
  • IKEA donates a solar cell lamp for each sale of the lamp to developing countries to promote education. So far 500,000 have been sold
  • The foundation also contributes to emergency relief worldwide such as Haiti earthquake.
