Malaysia : Culture
Malaysia has many cultures; it is a special place where the Eastern culture rests in harmony with the Western style. The appreciation of Western culture allowed IKEA to penetrate the market easily. With standards of life and purchasing power rising, Malaysian consumers are increasingly placing more attention on furniture’s style, quality and expression. IKEA products, being simple, elegant, colourful and stylish, fulfil consumers’ pursuit of better lifestyle.
In Malaysia, IKEA products are cheaper than other Western imports, but still more costly than most local furniture. But because Malaysian consumers tend to perceive Western design as more sophisticated and feel they represent good taste and status, modern IKEA design proved very popular among young people in this country.
